Rapidly expanding commercial insurance agency has a growth opportunity in our Risk Management Department at our main office, in Midtown Manhattan. If you are a knowledgeable claims professional with strong customer service skills, we would like to speak with you.


The Claims Advocate would summarily serve as the Risk Manager for a designated group of accounts. The successful candidate would work along-side key, client-side stakeholders, which may include Executives, Managers, Associates and/or Team Members. Internally, s/he would partner with the Account Management, Marketing, and Producing Departments, and with Risk/Loss Control with ongoing evaluation and assessment of client's risks, and programs, tools and mechanisms to positively impact the same. The role may assist with gathering, and summarizing loss histories for the purpose of marketing and/or underwriting. In addition to ongoing internal and client-facing communication, this professional will ensure the constant flow of communication with various carriers.

The ideal candidate will be adept at aggregating, synthesizing, assessing and presenting large amounts of varied data, and presenting the same in an intelligible fashion, throughout different business units. S/he will be tasked with reviewing policies and coverages, for appropriate and timely notice; also advocating on behalf of clients on the application of the same. This person would be expected to have experience across all lines of property and casualty business (primary and reinsurance), including, but not limited to:

  • Workers' Compensation
  • Property (OCIP, CCIP, Flood, Inland Marine)
  • Cyber
  • Commercial Package (General Liability, Auto, Professional, Crime, Boiler)
  • FINPRO (D&O, EPL, FIDU, CCRI, E&O); Professional Liability (including Mal-Practice)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Provide a consultative approach in advocating on behalf of the client
  • Review coverage letters and advocate on behalf of client as needed
  • Prepare and deliver quarterly/semi-annual claim reviews (client-facing)
  • Provide claim trending analysis (excel a must)
  • Document claims management activities within the system
  • Review and negotiate claim reserves with carriers as needed
  • Assist clients in resolving claims with client specific strategy
  • Pro-active follow up on large complex losses for adverse development
  • Identify risks and provide recommendations to help reduce exposure
  • Provide coaching / training to other team members as needed
  • Provide reporting of claims on behalf of agency clients
  • Act as claims liaison, including consultative discussions and research regarding coverages
  • Prepare customer claim summaries
  • Organize client claim review meeting agenda
  • Visit clients to review claims and assess claims needs
  • Assist with research and follow-up on claim reserves and payment
  • Track complicated claims for resolution and communicate findings to client
  • Provide specialized claim service as needed

Qualifications include:

  • Undergraduate Degree
  • 5+ years of claims experience with an insurance carrier, broker, or within the risk management department of an insured organization
  • Excellent computer and applications skills, with emphasis on varied RMIS
  • Highly-proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically in Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Pro-active team player
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willingness to travel locally
  • Understanding and utilization of Mod Master a plus
